People who prefer to exercise at home are choosing one of a number of mini steppers as their chosen fitness machine. They have unique benefits that other machines do not have.
Mini steppers range in price, but they can be very inexpensive, depending on personal choice. This is why they have quickly become the best selling way to lose weight at home.
- Want to lose weight?
- Need to tone your leg muscles and tighten your buttocks?
- ‘Suffer’ a tight time schedule.
- Struggle with joint problems that prevent you doing other activities?
Or you may just be embarrassed at the thought of exercising in front of strangers – people you do not know and would rather not get half in front of them.
You may also not want to see more of their bodies than you would if you passed them in the street!
Don’t worry, because honestly that is not as uncommon as you might think.
This is why home fitness machines like the mini stepper were designed in the first place, to allow you to exercise, lose fat and tone your legs, without having to waste time traveling back and forth a place where you really don’t want to be in the first place!

What Are the Benefits of Exercising on a Mini Stepper?
Whatever your reason for searching for a low cost fitness machine to use at home, the ‘mini’ version of the stair stepper has many benefits and really is the perfect choice for many reasons, some of which we’ve already discussed.
So, what is so great about them?
Spend a good thirty minutes walking up and down your stair case in your home, and you will find out. Because the principle is almost the same.
I say ‘almost’ because using a hydraulic action mini stepper puts a a lot less stress on your knees than when you walk up and down stairs.
It’s beautifully designed hydraulic pistons act a big like cushions, so you don’t bang your joints while you work out.
What Muscles Does a Mini Stepper Work?
- Hip Flexors
They put the muscles in your entire lower body to work – sculpting, strengthening and toning from your buttocks and hips, right down your leg to your calves.
You will even tighten up your core muscles as you workout.
Can They Help You to Lose Weight?
While it works deep into your leg muscles, stretching and toning them while radically improving your leg strength and core balance, this amazing little hydraulic action machine really goes to work on your cardio system, boosting your heart rate and sending the blood quickly around your veins, dragging the fat cells out of your body!
Well, that is the way I like to view cardio anyway.
I think if you can picture the end result for the hard work you are putting in now, the more you will enjoy it. Which in turn, will keep you using your little stepping wonder every day!
There are other reasons (which we cover below), but for its cardiovascular benefits alone (great for your heart and blood system), you can see why the mini version of the stepper machine is a huge favorite among many hundreds of thousands of people around the country.
Burn Calories Like Crazy
Mini steppers are guaranteed to burn off the extra calories with their built in resistance training settings, which means you will lose that unwanted fat.
But what if you don’t like exercise machines, and even thinking of taking a thirty minute workout on one is almost painful?
Well, one of the greatest things about using them at home is that, they are small enough for you to use in your lounge or living room, while you are watching your favorite TV show! How great is that?
Just set your mini stepper down in a ideal spot that you can see your television, do your stretching and warming up before getting on it and ‘blam’ – you can burn off hundreds of calories quickly doing what you would normally do of an evening (or morning)!
I promise you that by the end of your session, you won’t even notice how long you’ve been stepping! Which is great news for your waistline and let tone.
Mini Steppers are Compact and Lightweight
These things are so light, that once you have finished your workout, you can just pick your machine and put it back in the cupboard or wherever you store it, ready for your next session.
All you need is a solid surface, like a kitchen floor, flat surface in your office at work or even a patio area in your garden. You literally can take a mini stepper anywhere with you. Mind you, please be careful not to burn your skin in the sun, while you burn that fat! It is very easy to get carried away, once you get your center of balance right. What is the Best Type of Mini Stepper?
- Should you get a stand alone machine?
- Should you get one with handles either side?
- Should you get a twister version?
- Should you get one that comes with resistance bands?
- Should you get a sideways action mini stepper?
There are a few variations for sure, which is why we did a review of the top 3 mini steppers.
Which one you choose will ultimately come down to personal preference, but we hope our stepper buyers guide and the top 3 review page will take at least some of the headache out of choosing a suitable model.
But if you don’t want to read another page, here is the ‘nuts and bolts’ of what you need to know.
Firstly, lets take the twister stepper.
This type of device moves up and down, but in a sideways twisting motion which puts additional strain on your leg muscles while NOT stressing your knee joints.
The best and most reviewed on Amazon is the ‘Sunny Health and Fitness Twister Stepper’.
This additional twisting action promises to work more muscle area of your buttocks and thighs, and according to what other people say about Amazon’s best selling Twister Stepper, it “exceeds all expectations”.
Another happy user indicated that they purchased the twisting version because they required a low impact fitness machine that would help their recovery after a serious back injury, and “you can’t go wrong with this”.
The only issue they had was that although it is very lightweight and portable, it didn’t fit under their bed! But they did go on to say that it is very small, and you will hardly notice the unit if left out in plain site.
Finally, someone else exclaimed that although it was a little noisy (just some squeaking), this twister mini stepper is perfect for using indoors when its cold or raining outside. The screen shows you how many steps you’ve done, the time display is also clear and it will also measure distance.
Although I’m not convinced that you would need to know how far you’ve gone on a stepper, because you are stepping not walking!
There was one common downside to the twister version, and that is it came with resistance bands to give your workout an ‘extra punch’ by working your upper body.
The bands were not like by a few people, who chose instead just to use the stepping motion. Perhaps it is because of the twisting action, that makes it a bit awkward to use the bands as well.
Here are a few details:
- Heavy duty/Sturdy construction
- Adjustable height of steps for more a advanced workout
- Computer and screen
- Non-slip feet (add these to the heavy design, and you can be sure it won’t move)
- Handle bars help you balance
- Weighs a mere 28 pounds
Ok, so this version does everything the twister stepper does, but it has the added feature of the handlebars which is great news if you are a bit unsure with your balance.
What do other people say about the mini stepper with handle bars?
I’m not sure what the first reviewer I came across thought they were buying, because they only gave it a three star review – without just cause!
They complained that although this mini stepper worked great for the buttocks and legs, it did nothing for their upper body.
It isn’t designed to give your arms, back and shoulders a workout – the handle bars are fixed.
But what you should take away from this is to be 100% sure of what type of stepper you are buying. Before you hit the ‘buy’ button, make absolutely sure it is the one you want. This will avoid any confusion when it arrives.
The Fitness Solutions stepper is quite aesthetically pleasing to look at, which is the first thing you will notice. It looks different to nearly all the other steppers in it’s class, and also looks to be top quality (which is confirmed in the reviews).
The rubber bands offer an upper body muscle workout, while you step, so this type of step machine will suit you if you are looking for more than just a leg pump/cardio workout.
Let’s see what people say about it.
Firstly, all the reviewers are female. And all gave this a five star qualification.
The general consensus is that this mini stepping machine is top quality. It is lightweight and portable. It is easy to handle, which means you can place it wherever you want to exercise, and when you are done – just pick it up and put it back into storage ready for the next workout.
Conclusion – What Mini Stepper is Right for You?
Criteria you must decide on – Or read our review of the Top 3 Mini Steppers:
- Do you want one with rubber, resistance bands so you can have an upper body workout as well as a lower body one?
- Do you want one that puts a little extra ‘zing’ into your workout, with a twisting action – that is going to work your hips, buttocks and core just a little bit more?
- What is your budget? You can obtain any of the three types of stepper above for between $50 – $80. You cannot go wrong with this type of machine, because you can pick one up generally for under $100. What you get for your money with these fitness machines is amazing!
