A subject that is close to my heart is epilepsy, because my father suffered greatly with this disease in the latter years of his life. Epilepsy occurs for many reasons, most of which medical professionals are unable to detect.
New research has shown that cardiovascular exercise performed at a young age, can help to reduce the risk of getting epilepsy later on in life. This study was carried out by Center for Brain Repair and Rehabilitation, Sweden who based their findings on a ‘cohort study’ of the population, including over a million people.
The research was taken from men who were aged eighteen in 1950, then a follow up study carried out in 1987. Individuals who were very fit at eighteen were eighty percent less likely to suffer from epilepsy than people who had a very low level of exercise.
